about

Circa 97/98 Goatsnake went into the studio for the first time to record the first batch of songs we had written together. The chemistry/(black)magic we developed was captured on tape by Mathias Schneeberger at his studio in Silver Lake, CA. We were really excited about what we had stumbled across together as a group. The sounds were unlike anything any of us had played before. We wanted to share this with others. In an ultra-DIY manner, we made our own "demo" tapes for friends/family and also record labels we thought might enjoy it. We made our own covers,
J- cards and dubbed the tapes onto used industry promos or other tapes. (Masking tape over the two holes on the top of the cassette). These songs would later appear on the debut album: "1". The versions here are slightly different, unmastered (although the level has been boosted for this release) , with different mixes, and some of the tones sound rawer and have a different grind than the album that was released. ENJOY!

In celebration of Southern Lords' 25th year anniversary, we partnered with Oblivion Records for an exact replica cassette demo release of the 1st Goatsnake demo! These are very limited. One-time pressing!

The actual tape comes with a Goatsnake guitar pick!
